New Data Stories: How Traffic Affects Air Quality in Massachusetts

We’re excited to share a new series of data stories on our website that explore the connection between local traffic and air quality in communities across Massachusetts.
Using data from our network of air quality sensors, these stories highlight how air pollution levels vary throughout the day — and how traffic patterns play a major role. From morning and evening rush hours to weekend lulls, our sensors reveal how vehicle emissions contribute to fluctuations in pollutants like particulate matter (PM2.5).
By visualizing real-time and historical sensor data, we aim to make the invisible impacts of traffic on our air more visible and understandable.
