On Thursday July 17th, we hit the streets of Holyoke for a walk audit to better understand how transportation impacts our air quality. Using a portable air sensor, we measured pollution levels near cars, buses trains and busy streets and saw AQI readings spike above 100 when vehicles were idling!
Data from our monitors on HealthyAirNetwork.org shows that transportation corridors are major contributors to pollution in our region. This walk audit helped us see that firsthand.
A huge thank you to Mayor Joshua A. Garcia for stopping by and uplifting this important work! We’re grateful for the City of Holyoke’s efforts to improve air quality, including planting more trees! Shoutout to our amazing resident advisors and community partners who joined us! Your participation makes all the difference!
